    Batik Basics: Resist Dyeing Part I

    Saturday July 29th from 1 - 4 pm

    Appalachian Art Farm, 22 Morris St., Sylva, NC 28779


    Join artist Kansas Heiskell-Cook and learn the traditional techniques of hot wax resist and fabric dying. Create your own design or use one of the provided templates to create a fabric design. If you take only part one you will create a completed batik with one color (plus fabric color). Take both workshops for more colorful results!

    Ages 12+
    $35 covers instruction and materials (Part I)
    $60 covers instruction and materials (Part I and Part II)
    Part II is offered August 5th.

    Artist bio: Kansas graduated from WCU with an undergraduate degree in K-12 Art Education with a focus in photography. After graduating she got on with Jackson County School of Alternatives teaching art. While there she saw the inherent therapeutic benefits of art making and pursued a Masters in Art Therapy. She has worked with varied populations focusing on individuals on the Austism Spectrum. Since graduating she is raising a little one and pursuing a NC Counseling license.


    Appalachian Art Farm is a non-profit organization in Sylva, NC whose mission is to support individual and artistic growth and community wellness through programs in the arts, heritage skills and outdoor recreation. We serve all members of the community and visitors, with a special focus on at-risk adolescents through service-learning projects.
