Did you know that mushrooms can be used not only as food and medicine but also as a Natural Dye? Welcome to the world of Natural Dyeing with mushrooms! Using specific dye mushrooms, we will be able to create the full range of rainbow pigments on protein fiber. Bring any kind of yarn or fabric made with wool, silk, alpaca, etc. We will have 6 dyes going at the same time in our studio in the back of Local Cloth. I will show you different techniques for doing this at home, and provide you with a list of the most common mushrooms in our area for dyeing. We will also go over techniques for mushroom preservation and proper storage. I will have 1 ounce skeins of white wool yarn available for you to purchase for $3 each for testing colors. You can purchase up to 10 mini skeins for testing colors. Bring at least four protein-fiber items from home that you would like to dye with mushrooms.
