Dye It First, we will learn the beautiful and ancient Japanese resist-dyeing technique known as shibori, in tandem with natural indigo dyeing. We will create unique patterns on fabric using folding, tying, and binding resist techniques to dye the fabric for our shirts, as well as some smaller samples. You will also learn the basics of mixing and maintaining a natural fructose indigo dye bath. Students are welcome to bring their own small fabric or items (limited to the size of a t-shirt) from home to dye. Any natural fiber items will take the indigo dye—cotton, linen, hemp, silk, wool, etc.

Sew It Sew your own boxy top. First you will learn how to print and assemble a PDF pattern (Sam will record a short, 10-minute video on how to properly measure yourself to match the pattern we are using. You will get the video after you sign up), and how to make some minor length adjustments. Then how to cut fabric for garments, including understanding terms such as on grain, cross grain and bias. Finally we will then sew your super simple top! You’ll sew side seams, hems and a neck binding using your fabric or contrast if you wish.

Wear it Home! You’ve sewn it, you’ve dyed it, now wear it home and wait for the compliments. Bring lunch, and/or a light snack  .
