Cold water dyes, also called fiber reactive dyes, are chemical dyes specifically formulated to work on natural cellulose fibers such as cotton, linen, bamboo and hemp. They also dye silk. Cold water dyes work beautifully at a low temperature and result in a colorfast and washfast fabric when done properly. In this class, we'll experiment with several different techniques: vat dyeing, tie-dyeing and shibori.

MATERIALS FEE : 5 dollars: soda ash, string for tying and several colors of dye.

Level: Beginner

Registration: Members $38 (23% discount), Non-members $46 (23% discount)

Instructor: Judi Jetson

What to bring/how to dress: 3 small cotton, linen or bamboo items to dye that have been pre-washed in hot water (i.e., fabric, bandanas, t-shirts, white underwear) a dust mask or respirator, rubber gloves, apron, a bucket, plastic storage bags.
