This month we will be making a lake pigment. This technique uses a dye solution, either  a fresh dye bath or one you have used to dye with. By adding a few simple ingredients you are able to coax the pigment out of solution and create a powdered pigment. You can then use this powder to make paint or ink or store it to turn it back into a dye solution.  It is a simple process but takes time and it may not be completely filtered by the end of our session so check out the supplies you need to bring. If you just want to watch the process, that's fine too. I will be demonstrating how to make paint with some pigment I previously made. We will also have time to work in the dye garden so please bring gloves, trowels, etc

If you haven't joined the us for the study group we pick one topic each month which is led by one of the natural dyer's in our group. This is not a class and does assume a basic familiarity with natural dyeing. We do recommend that you have taken a class or done some research so you can  have a  satisfactory experience.

What to Bring:

1-2 Liter natural dye solution, a tall plastic container that can hold at least 3 liters, a funnel, a turkey baster or large syringe, plastic bag to take wet coffee filter home in. Gardening tools and gloves. We will have the chemicals and coffee filters for everyone to use.

Hosted by Joyce Tromba

Social distancing and mask wearing will be observed.
