This month we will continue dyeing fleece for the Blue Ridge Blanket Project. We will be overdyeing the light blue indigo skeins with weld to achieve green and dyeing undyed skeins with weld to get yellow.  Depending on time we may also dye a few more skeins with madder. If it's a nice day we can also do some preparation in the dye garden while the yarn simmers in the dye pot.

The Blue Ridge Blankets Project brings fiber farmers, processors, dyers and weavers together to produce yarn and blankets made from animals raised in Western North Carolina. Our mission is to revitalize the textile economy in our region, to support our local fiber farmers and artists, and to create beautiful, locally sourced, handmade goods for life. Our part of this initiative is to dye the fiber with natural dyes.

We will be dyeing with indigo, weld, madder and walnut. Please join us if you would like to help in this effort.

If you haven't joined the us for the study group we pick one topic each month which is led by one of the natural dyer's in our group. This is not a class and does assume a basic familiarity with natural dyeing. We do recommend that you have taken a class or done some research so you can  have a  satisfactory experience.

What to Bring:

A project to work on and any natural dye work to share for show and tell. Some basic gardening tools and gloves

Hosted by Joyce Tromba

Social distancing and mask wearing will be observed.
