This month we will be experimenting with Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare.). This is a common plant with bright yellow button shaped flowers. It contains luteolin, the same dye found in weld as well as apigenin and produces a very light fast yellow. It has been used medicinally for centuries but can be toxic if ingested. We have a large bunch of tansy donated by a generous Local Cloth member. If you came to the tannin class last month, bring some samples along with mordanted samples of the fiber of your choice.

Please do some research on your own before the study group so we can share and discuss our findings. There is some down time while we wait for the dye pots to simmer so bring some handwork along if you like.

If you haven't joined the us for the study group we pick one topic each month which is led by one of the natural dyer's in our group. This is not a class and does assume a basic familiarity with natural dyeing. We do recommend that you have taken a class or done some research so you can  have a  satisfactory experience.

What to Bring:

Small samples of protein or cellulose fiber; pre-mordanted and, fibers treated with tannin from previous meeting if you have them. Some handwork (optional).

Any natural dye work to share for show and tell.

Hosted by Joyce Tromba and Denise Arcuri

Social distancing and mask wearing will be observed.
