This month we will be experimenting with the sawdust from the tree Dalbergia melanoxylon, a very hard wood from Africa. We were generously gifted this from our friends at Earth Guild who in turn received it from a flute maker.  Although I couldn't find anything in the literature about its' dyeing potential, my initial experiments with it showed it produced a reddish color. So we will be doing testing on both protein and cellulose fibers and we can share our results and add to the collective wisdom about natural dyeing.

If you haven't joined the us for the study group we pick one topic each month which is led by one of the natural dyer's in our group. This is not a class and does assume a basic familiarity with natural dyeing. We do recommend that you have taken a class or done some research so you can  have a  satisfactory experience.

What to Bring: Small samples of protein or cellulose fiber; mordanted and unmordanted. Old or new pantyhose

Hosted by Joyce Tromba

Social distancing and mask wearing will be observed.
