This 10-week, 20 session course will provide instruction on various sewing techniques for apparel, accessories, costumes and interiors. It is based on the sewing course offered at Savannah College of Art and Design, taught by former SCAD Professor of Fashion. The first part of the course will cover techniques. The later portion will include three individualized projects selected by the student. Upon completion, participants will be able to perform a comprehensive set of skills suitable for a variety of projects and entry into professional sewing. No experience necessary. This course has been discounted 25% off the regular price for individual classes so it's a great deal and wonderful opportunity to learn the fundamentals of sewing that will allow you to make and alter your own clothes as well as make basic home furnishings. Materials students should bring: Sewing machines for use at Local Cloth. Students should supply fabric shears, 2 - 5 yards cotton muslin (or scrap mid-weight cotton fabric), fabric marker (pencil may work initially), all-purpose sewing thread, thread clippers, seam ripper, hand sewing needles (sharps), straight pins, one shirt button, one shank button, one mid-sized/4-hole button, hook/eye, pant hook/bar, one snap set, two 7-inch closed bottom zippers (nylon coil and/or metal), one 7-inch invisible zipper, left and right zipper feet, invisible zipper foot, ruler, tape measure, portable sewing machine (if you have your own), materials to sew projects (patterns, fabric, trim). Materials can be purchased at Asheville Cotton Co., Joann Fabrics, 5 Little Monkeys Quilt & Sew, Wawak (online).
