Printing with Ferrous Acetate July and August meetings

This month and next we will explore printing with ferrous acetate. We will use a thickened paste of ferrous acetate and print on cotton to achieve a printed image. We will use simple foam stamps which you can make or buy. They will work best if the texture of the stamp is not smooth. Also go for more solid motifs rather than delicate ones. 

This month we will dye the fabric with indigo and next month we will dye with madder. As usual we will have small samples of fabric to use, if you want to do additional pieces bring your own fabric (cotton or linen) to experiment with. Your fabric does not have to be mordanted for printing or dyeing this month since we are using indigo.

Thinking ahead to next month it would be a time saver if you bring in mordanted fabric to print this month and then dye in the madder bath in August.
