August's gathering will focus on walnuts. Its time to gather them while they are still green, this gives the best color. We will do our regular sampling but also plan to do some dyeing as well. To make sure we have enough time for dyeing please bring your walnuts hulled already (discard the nut or use for something else, we will only use the green hulls) its best to store them in the freezer unless you are doing this right before the meeting. Don't forget to wear gloves when handling walnuts, they will dye your skin a lovely brown color!

Walnuts are a substantive dye, which means you do not need to mordant your fiber.

So bring walnuts and fiber to dye, we will have the material for the sample book. You should estimate about 100 % weight of goods for the amount of hulls. If you don't have a tree in your yard, chances are your neighbor does and they will be happy for you to pick them up. We'll have some extras if you can't source them yourself.
