Weaving 1: Three Warps, Three Towels

Session 1

The best way to become comfortable warping a floor loom is frequent repetition. This in-depth introduction to weaving guides students through planning, warping and weaving three towels on three separate short warps, while learning about choosing fibers and colors, how looms and weaving equipment work, efficient warping, proper weaving technique and wet-finishing handwoven textiles.

In session 1, students will weave a plain weave cotton towel on a 4-shaft floor loom. Subjects include loom/equipment orientation, yarn selection, calculating yarn needs, pattern drafting, warp winding, front-to-back warping, shuttle handling and bobbin winding, weaving techniques, hemstitching and wet finishing.

Note: For beginners, Karen recommends taking all three sessions in succession, however, it is possible to take only one or two of the three-class sessions, with appropriate experience. Please contact Karen to discuss options. Karendonde@gmail.com
