Make something new out of something old! Students will use vintage clothing and fabric to create a unique quilt and a tote bag.

Instructor: Stephenie Thomas

Stephenie has been sewing since the age of 7 (that's when her mom and grandmothers thought she could manage a sewing machine without chopping her fingers off). Really, she started sewing way before then. Just by hand (which is a fine way to start, mind you). Now, she's been sewing everything she can for over 20 years. That seems like a long time but sewing, like all good things, takes a lifetime to master. Stephenie's been refashioning old clothing since before it was cool, turning thrift store finds into Halloween awesomeness, ugly gym shirts into fitted athletic wear and worn out jeans into pocketbooks with pockets to spare.  There's not much recognition to be had in the world of RE-fashion but Stephenie has won several Halloween costume contests and was a member of the first place duo winning the 2015 West Asheville ReFash fashion design challenge. Stephenie also owns her own crafty business, which you can find on Facebook at Stepheniecanmake that, specializing in custom costuming, paintings, t-shirt quilts and anything else you can dream up! She is so excited to be teaching the next generation of seamstresses and sartors (that's a funny word for a sewing dude) at this fun camp where you will turn would be trash into cool wearable keepsakes.
