Embroidered Observations

Working with, but moving beyond traditional embroidery techniques, students will create stitched images whose surfaces are rich with color and texture. Observation will be employed as a direct experience that taps all of the senses and encourages students to improvise and invent. This workshop introduces a range of embroidery and fabric manipulation techniques including woven embroidery, couching, gathering, and wrapping. A layered, collaged approach to creating images will be emphasized. No previous embroidery experience required. Open to all skill levels.
