Get ready for the holidays with temari ornaments! You can decorate your own tree with them or give them as gifts! Temari originated in China and moved to Japan in the 7th century CE. Originally a folk art, it gradually became a traditional art form, transforming from hand balls for children (“temari” means “hand ball”) to extraordinary gifts representing great friendship. This course is a beginning workshop in Temari, a Japanese form of embroidery. The class will use pre-wound balls (2) in order to get experience with handling the balls and stitching. These will be simple balls. The aim of the workshop is for you to be able to make your own temari ornaments. Different student tempos can be accommodated, however, some stitching experience is absolutely necessary (with any form: sewing, embroidery, etc.).
