In this intimate workshop you will learn the basics of using a loom and weaving cloth over the course of 4 Thursday evenings. Class 1 will focus on learning the parts of a loom and preparing it to weave (called dressing the loom). In class 2 we will begin the process of weaving! What is a shed? Shuttles and bobbins? The selvage? All this and more will be discussed. Class 3 is expanding our understanding of basic weaving structures- we will move beyond plain weave into twills, supplemental wefts, tapestry techniques, and experimental materials. The final class will offer time to finish as much as we can of our warps, cut the weaving from the loom, and develop various methods of “finishing the ends.” Intended to reveal the magic and complexity of weaving, this course will be process focused and collaborative in approach.
