Textiles - Made Recently & Long Ago
Are you a knitter, quilter, weaver? Do you embroider, crochet, or mend? Maybe you don't but you grandmother or great-grandmother did?
I am a curator in Asheville and member of Local Cloth looking to celebrate handmade textiles from our region. From contemporary works to historical objects, the labor of creating functional textiles is due for some praise and consideration. Anything for use in the home- from blankets for keeping warm to remarkable tablecloths to everyday rags for keeping the house clean- and anything in between. Let’s look at, share, learn from, and celebrate the craftsmanship and process involved in the making of these goods.
Quilts, coverlets, lacework, tablecloths, rugs, handkerchiefs, handmade clothing, mended goods (darned socks, sweaters, patched jeans, etc.).
Tools involved in making (needles to looms & in-between).
Other textiles made or artistically altered here in the Buncombe Co. region.
Textiles made contemporarily which play with the idea of function are DEFINITELY welcome!!
Work can be for sale or display only. Exhibition up November, 2019 right before the holidays so ideal time to sell work; show will be up in the Asheville Area Arts Council with a consistent stream of people coming through.
